Choosing the wrong hair supplier costs more than money — it costs clients. One batch that tangles, sheds or fades can undo years of salon reputation. Use this eight-point checklist before you place your next wholesale order.

1. Ask Where the Hair Actually Comes From

Not all "human hair" is the same. The two labels you will hear most are virgin and raw:

• Virgin hair — never chemically processed, coloured or permed. Cuticles are intact and usually aligned.
• Raw hair — collected from a single donor, completely unprocessed, with cuticles running in one direction. It is the longest-lasting option and the easiest to lift to light shades.

2. Confirm Cuticle Alignment — The #1 Tangle Factor

Cuticle alignment is the single biggest difference between hair that lasts a year and hair that mats in three weeks. When every strand's cuticle faces the same direction, the hair resists tangling and shedding.

What to ask: "Are the cuticles aligned, and how do you verify it?" A real factory can explain its sorting process. A reseller often cannot.

3. Check Which Lace Constructions They Actually Stock

If you sell wigs, lace options matter as much as the hair itself. Common constructions include:

• 13x4 — lace across ear to ear, 4 inches deep. Great everyday parting space.
• 13x6 — 6 inches deep, for deeper partings and more styling freedom.
• 360 — lace all the way around, so the hair can be worn in a high ponytail.
• Closure sizes — 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 and 7x7 for a simpler, lower-maintenance install.

6. Understand Minimums, Lead Times and Restock Reality

• What is the minimum order quantity per SKU?
• How long from order confirmation to dispatch?
• If a texture sells out, how long until it is back?
• Is the price stable for repeat orders, or does it move with raw material cost?

Consistency beats a one-time low price. A vendor who cannot restock your best-seller reliably will cost you more in lost sales than you saved.

7. Request a Quality Control Walkthrough

Ask how many inspection stages each order passes through. A serious operation checks at three points:

1. Raw material — length consistency, cuticle condition, short-hair ratio.
2. In-process — weft security, curl pattern consistency, lace knot quality.
3. Finished goods — shedding test, tangling test, colour accuracy, packaging.

Ask for photos or short videos of the process. Factories doing real QC are usually proud to show it.

8. Test Communication Before You Commit

Send a detailed question before your first order and time the reply. Ask about a problem — a wrong shade, a delayed shipment — and see how they handle it. The response you get before they have your money is the best predictor of the response you will get after.
